American Repertory Ballet, March 12, 2002, McCarter Theatre, Princeton, NJ.

Raised to believe the playing field, or game board rather, is level. That we all start at GO with $200. Raised to have faith that hard work and discipline are the tools needed to acquire your dreams. Not knowing that there are those who will only let you have their version of your dream. Not accepting you unless you fit into the conventional world on conventional terms. Wanting you to be simple, one sided, so you can easily be put into a box and understood. So you pick up a different monopoly piece, put on a different costume, try to live on their terms. Try to change the structure from the inside, say what you want in a language they will accept. Sometimes losing yourself in the translation.
