Summer Intensive
Princeton Ballet School and American Repertory Ballet are proud to offer the Summer Intensive, a program of serious study in a warm and companionable atmosphere. An exceptional faculty, led by Artistic Director Graham Lustig, provides caring and careful instruction conducive to technical and artistic progress. Students experience the opportunity to:
- grow technically through two or three hours daily in ballet
class, plus additional classes in pointe and partnering
- expand their dance background through
classes in modern dance and theater dance
- deepen their understanding of important
concepts in injury prevention, such as proper alignment
and rotation
- exercise their creativity in choreography
workshops
- sample a taste of professional life
in a full day (9:30-5:00pm) dance experience, including
rehearsals for a final performance
- strengthen their personal goals, discipline,
and focus
- develop group communication and leadership
skills when choreographing with their peers, while establishing
friendships with equally committed young dancers
- interact with dedicated professionals,
including the teaching staff and our professional company
members who participate in the workshop

BalletPlus Juniors is a program for the strong intermediate
dancer. The emphasis will be on progressing technically; building
strength and flexibility; increasing coordination and learning
speed; and having fun together.
Daily ballet technique classes will focus on correct alignment
and use of épaulement. Additional class time in dance history,
anatomy, performance skills and dance composi-tion will make
a varied day for the young dancers.
Students may register for any or all of the five weeks; however,
they will enjoy and learn more by taking classes for at least
two weeks, consecutively if possible. Students new to ARB's
Princeton Ballet School are urged to start the session at
the beginning. Ad-mission is on a first-come, first-served
basis and enrollment is limited.
Age Guidelines:
BalletPlus Juniors would be most appropriate for dancers age
9 and above, who have completed these Princeton Ballet School
levels: Children's Intermediate 3 or Student 1.

BalletPlus Seniors offers an exciting summer program for
young dancers, with the same careful, personal training for
which ARB’s Princeton Ballet School is famous.
During the school year, most young dancers don’t have time
to expand their knowledge of dance into other fields, such
as dance history, choreography, variations and special stretch
classes. We offer these topics and more each afternoon, after
a strong morning of two ballet classes.
This program is for dancers ages 11 and over, who are at
a strong intermediate level. Many of these dancers have recently
begun their pointe work. Others are getting ready for this
major moment in a dancer’s life. We spend time within the
week working on basic pointe exercises and pointe readiness
work.
For the young men involved, we will also be offering a Young
Men’s Class for the first time this year.
Students may choose from two to six weeks of training. Each
week will build on and refer to the others. Serious young
dance students should try to attend at least four weeks. Each
week has a different theme, with a classical ballet being
studied.
Placement Information:
Students new to Princeton Ballet School need to arrange
to take a placement class during the spring to determine their
level for the ballet classes. We will call you upon receipt
of registration to arrange a time.
